Since 2020, the MBNA has been advocating for the City to clean and maintain our City's sidewalks. The utility markings made by careless contractors are a huge eyesore for our City. We need continuous pressure cleaning and filling of broken concrete creating dangerous gaps throughout our sidewalks. Contracts signed by the City should include the dates required for removal of markings once a project has been completed.
GUIDELINES OF MARKINGS (from 1999). These need to be revised to include removal date requirements.
MBNA's Video created on February, 2021, clearly depicts issues with Utility Markings and violations observed all over our City:
March 10, 2020- Indian Creek Drive & 34th Street They marked the TV cable again with orange paint even though there are no planned excavations at this sight. As evidenced in video below, Contractor is not following protocols and shows total disregard for what he's doing:
The red paint being used for underground lights (Stl) is remaining for many months uneccesarily and is not dissolving as required. This is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed.
March 13, 2021 - Indian Creek Drive & 34th Street. As seen on video below, AGAIN, they mark-up the NEW sidewalks with orange paint even though excavations are complete. This is unacceptable.
Example of a careless contractor with total disregard for the impact he's creating:
This video clip above was filmed on January 27, 2021. Apparently these graffiti markings were done to pass a fiber optic cable that is inserted in a conduit that was previously installed in 2020. During 2019 while they were installing that conduit from Collins Ave. and 27th Street going north, most sidewalks on Collins Ave. were also savagely marked up.
Recently on Flamingo Drive, they did similar graffiti markings on 300' of sidewalk just to repair a half-inch diameter TV coaxial cable.
We understand that this system established by the State of Florida seems necessary for big construction projects and major work. However, it is irrational and illogical for anyone to destroy our sidewalks with such disregard for such long periods of time prior to simple installations of data or cable lines.
