There are numerous FDOT construction projects in the pipeline for the next five years that will be impacting our Residents, Employees and CMB Visitors. This page will serve as a communication tool for all our MBNA Members.

WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT ON THE 41st street bridge. The 41st Street Revitalization Project commenced on April 23, 2024. Traffic on 41st street and Collins Ave/Indian Creek will be severely impacted for several months due to necessary lane closure. Project Overview The City of Miami Beach is replacing the aerial water main along 41 Street between Pine Tree Drive and Collins Avenue. This critical project will upgrade the existing infrastructure to a 20-inch pipe via horizontal directional drilling. Once completed, the new pipe will provide the necessary flow capacity to support increasing demand along Collins Avenue. Project Update The 41 Street Water Main Replacement project is currently underway. To address a few concerns that were observed during the first few days of implementation, the project team has modified the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan.
Indian Creek Drive southbound at 41 Street has been restored to its normal condition, featuring two southbound lanes and one dedicated westbound lane.
41 Street westbound between Pine Tree Drive and Indian Creek Drive will be reduced to one lane.
41 Street westbound between Indian Creek Drive and Collins Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic. Detours will be provided.
41 Street from Collins Avenue east to the street end (Beachwalk) will be local traffic only.
41 Street and Pine Tree Drive westbound, there will be no option to turn left.
Timeline: This project is expected to conclude in September 2024. Work hours are Monday–Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to the nature of this operation and heavy machinery, a 24-hour lane closure will be in effect. Please know that this schedule may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. What to Expect:
Commuters to and from Miami Beach will face delays on 41 Street due to lane closures. Please plan accordingly and seek an alternate route, when possible.
There may be construction noise due to equipment.
There may be moderate noise impacts outside of normal working hours.
A staging area will be installed within the closed lane.
Emergency vehicles will always have access.
There will be increased off-duty police presence during construction hours.

As indicated in the FDOT PROJECT CHART below, there are a total of fourteen (14) FDOT construction projects in the pipeline. Of those, six (6) roadway construction projects will be directly impacting MidBeach and three of those have dates that may potentially conflict.
The MBNA will be working closely with FDOT and CMB Transportation Dept. to make sure the the sequence of these projects are carefully coordinated and that the majority of the lane closures take place at night so that traffic impact is minimized.
2-7-24 Project Update presented by Melissa Rodriguez during the MBNA Meeting: A quick update on the FDOT Collins Avenue Projects. These projects consist of two project limits. The first is a roadway project along Collins Ave from NW 26 St to 44 St and the second will be to perform lighting upgrades along SR A1A/Collins Ave from the 4900 Block to 5800 Block. The project was intended to being in mid-February. However, the utility companies are still performing preliminary work. The staging area for the construction equipment is also still being determined. The contractor will no longer be staging near Collins Avenue and 87 Street. Internally, FDOT is working to determine a new area, however we do not have the location confirmed yet.
Next week, you can anticipate seeing the utility companies continuing to perform work. Over the next couple of weeks, the FDOT contractor may also be on site performing survey work and the environmental protection work, with minimal impact to the public. We will be returning in March to the next MBNA meeting with a PowerPoint presentation that will go over the full traffic plan and lane closure information. At that time, we will be able to have the confirmations and provide more information on the schedule of work. An advisory will be going out to the community prior to any lane closure or major work. FDOT held a public meeting on July 11, 2023 (both in person at the Library and virtually via GoToMeeting) to present the upcoming roadway improvement project from 41st to 47th Street, including renovations to the 41st street bridge. FDOT'S "TOWN HALL" MEETING at City Hall on May 18, 2023 It was certainly an eye-opener to learn about the numerous roadway construction projects that are in the pipeline, most of which will be seriously impacting Miami Beach residents, employees and visitors alike.
We thank Senator Shevrin Jones and Commissioner Alex Fernandez for organizing an important "TRANSPORTATION TOWN HALL" with FDOT District 6 Secretary Stacy Miller, FDOT's Director of Transportation Operations Daniel Iglesias, FDOT's Construction Manager Dru Badri, FDOT's Asst. Construction Engineer Andres Berisiartu, and Communications Manager, Tish Burgher.
